Engineering Tier 3 Support:
Provides oversight of configuring and managing multiple major areas of system administration and serves as a technical lead for endpoint security, VPN, firewall, secure tunnels, backups, disaster recovery, and software updates. Reviews, analyzes, and provides critical insights in the design, development, and implementation of complex enterprise infrastructures.
Performs work pertaining primarily to the planning, tasking, coordination, oversight, technical support, and the successful operation of the following areas: endpoint security, vulnerability management, anti-virus\malware\ransomware protection, EDR (endpoint detection and response), encryption and compliance, security monitoring & responses; and ensure that rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, practices in the delivery of customer support services are provided to OIG, VPN, firewall, and secure tunnels.
Consults with vendors' sales and field service personnel to troubleshoot and resolve problems regarding software corrections and modifications.
Serves as a technical consultant to IT specialists and senior management in support of complex application systems hosted on the organization's systems. Incumbent provides advice/guidance to lower-level IT Specialist on endpoint security and compliance policies, configurations, controls, and procedures of OIG enterprise services.
Provides expert consultation, advice, guidance, training, and leadership to other IT specialists on VPN, firewall, secure tunnels, endpoint security (example, McAfee ePO, Microsoft Bitlocker, Microsoft Defender), vulnerability management, Anti-virus\Malware\Ransomware protection tools, EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response), encryption, and compliance. These include, but are not limited to, OIG-wide activities to evaluate, architectural and infrastructure implementation guidance to OIG enterprise systems, software/hardware upgrades, software/hardware migrations, software/hardware deployments, mitigated security vulnerabilities, and system evaluation and best practice recommendations for government-widesystems.
Evaluates specifications and features of new products, performing product comparisons, feasibility and cost benefit analyses, and performance and compatibility testing, and makes recommendations for future implementation to management.
Serves as a project lead when managing special projects that have a significant impact on the delivery of customer support and system administration services. The incumbent's project management duties will include development and prioritization of the division's annual IT work plan in conjunction with the supervisors and division Directors. Advises technical IT Specialist with IT systems development projects from design to support, including developing plans and schedules, estimating resource requirements, defining milestones and deliverables, monitoring activities, evaluating, reporting on accomplishments, defining post-implementation support requirements, manage contract renewals, procure new procurement contracts, work with internal and external groups, and develop requirements.
Manages high priority assignments and participates in the development of operation plans; oversees planning, directing and coordination of the implementation and execution of approved policies, programs and services related to IT systems; reviews and evaluates operations to appraise the effectiveness of policies and programs; determines deficiencies and recommends appropriate action.
Customer Support:
Resolves the most difficult customer support requests involving integration or configuration related issues endpoint security, threat prevention, data loss prevention, host-based firewall, network appliance firewall, file removable media protection, antivirus protection, malware protection, secure tunnels, backups, disaster recovery, drive encryption, URL filtering. The incumbent works with other technical network specialists, applications developers, management, peers, and technical security specialists to prevent recurring problems.
Provides OMP representation in planning for the installation and implementation of new systems and leads efforts to define post implementation support requirements. Keeps OIG OIT directors and senior management abreast of new and evolving technology in the hosting services area. Alerts management to relevant new technologies, tools, and methodologies and evaluates and recommends adoption of the most promising developments.
Submits weekly status reports to the supervisor, participating in weekly staff meetings and regularly briefs Executive Management, Senior Management and other OIT Directors on the status of divisional projects. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education may not be substituted for specialized experience for this position at the GS-14 grade level.
