This position is located in the Division of Information Technology, Chicago, IL Regional Office of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and provides support in the areas of policy and program direction; development, implementation, and maintenance of information systems; management of telecommunications networks; hardware and software management; and the servicing of the information requests for users within and outside of the Corporation.
Summary

Work schedule
Full-time - Must be able to work year round in the Chicago Regional Office. Must be able to work full-time during the summer months and at least part-time during the school year, breaks and holidays. Part-time is considered at least 24 hours per week.
Applicants who have been accepted for enrollment or are enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis; have at least a cumulative (overall) 2.5 grade point average; remain in good academic standing and have an anticipated graduation date of May 2022 or later. Candidates pursuing degrees in an IT-related field are preferred.
Under general supervision, the incumbent may have the opportunity to:

Under general supervision, the incumbent assists or participates in:

Troubleshoot minor hardware and software configuration problems; gather, analyze and evaluate basic information for input problem statements and feasibility studies which include analyses of customer requirements.
Populate and maintain an automated call tracking system with client request data.
Participate in the deployment and assist in the management of IT assets and services within the region.
Provide support to supervisor and staff on projects.
Study the business of the division for which assignments are made to acquire an in-depth understanding of its mission and functions.
CG-11:
The incumbent provides day-to-day IT support as a computer specialist. This support can take the form of performing the following duties:
Develop information on the client's business operations and assist in the identification and resolution of problems.
Assist clients in defining systems and/or business applications requirements.
Assist clients in the use of new automated tools which have been directed to them.
Participate with the client in applying new IT tools and implementing new automated processes.
Participate in the deployment and assist in the management of IT assets and services within the assigned region.
Assume ownership of client requests for help and resolve, optimally, at first contact or,when needed, subsequent contact(s).
Determine when the problem is beyond the incumbent's domain, and assists appropriate personnel for resolution.
Advise clients and management of problem resolution and/or the status of progress toward resolution.
Populate and maintaining an automated call tracking system with client request data.
Monitor the products and processes assigned to ensure they operate efficiently with the FDIC software and hardware environment.
Provide technical advice, information to the client community in the appropriate and effective use of the equipment, software products and processes.
Maintain a working knowledge in the areas of hardware and system software.
Provide technical support to all users of the FDIC voice/video network.
Troubleshoot problems, diagnose systems failures to isolate source of problems in equipment, systems software and applications programs.
After successful completion of the program requirements and based on FDIC’s needs, the selectees may be non-competitively converted to a Term or Permanent position based upon an evaluation of performance, completion of at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program. However, service in the FDIC Pathways Internship Program confers no right to further employment in the competitive or excepted service.

To be eligible for this program, applicants must: (1) be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a degree seeking program at a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis; (2) have an academic major in information technology, computer science, engineering, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, technology management or a related field; (3) have a minimum cumulative (overall) GPA of 2.5 out of 4.0 and (4) be in good academic standing.

CG-07: 1 year of IT related experience equivalent to a CG-05.
Specialized Experience for the CG-07: IT experience utilizing standard personnel computer (PC) software and operating systems, assisting clients with the use of Microsoft applications, and preparing reports using Microsoft Excel.
CG-09: 1 year of IT related experience equivalent to a CG-07.
Specialized Experience for the CG-09: IT experience troubleshooting minor hardware and software problems; participating in deployments of IT equipment; and assisting in the management of IT assets and services.
CG-11: 1 year of IT related experience equivalent to a CG-09.
Specialized Experience for the CG-11: IT experience supporting end user IT hardware and software issues; analyzing and communicating user requirements related to operational or technology changes for all aspects of IT; and implementing IT solutions for customers across a range of technical areas such as operating systems, peripherals, and hardware such as laptops, desktops and printers.
