Duties

Help
  • You will serve as a senior training instructor in the instructional areas of law and evidence, terrorism, laws of arrest, search and seizure, basic criminology, accident investigations, and other specialized areas related to law enforcement.
  • You will develop and submit recommendations to the training supervisor on course content additions, revisions, and deletions.
  • You will coordinate with other federal law enforcement instructors in developing different approaches and methods of instruction.
  • You will conduct lectures, discussion, guided conference and demonstration methods to present law enforcement instructional sessions.
  • You will serve as the Firearms Range control officer, test for weapons proficiency and provide instruction on the firing line to students.

  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. You will be required to pass a yearly physical and continue to be physically fit. You will be required to pass an annual Physical Agility Test.
  • You must be 21 years of age.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing instruction to law enforcement personnel on the laws and regulations regarding evidence, arrest, search and seizure; 2) Providing instruction on the use of law enforcement equipment and techniques; 3) Providing instruction to law enforcement personnel on investigative procedures and methods; 4) Evaluating the performance of students in a law enforcement training environment; 5) Developing lessons plans and course materials for training programs.

Completion of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Uniformed Police Training Program is a condition of continued employment. Employee will be required to sign a continuing service agreement prior to travel to the academy.

Agreement to Continue in Service - CSA, Agency requires 36 months of continued employment after the completion of required training from the FLETC in accordance with Title 5 USC 4108 and 5 CFR410.309. Failure to voluntary complete length of employment requirement can subject employee to reimburse to the agency for fees, such as tuition and related fees, travel, and other special expenses (excluding salary) paid in connection with the training.

For qualification sustainment, each instructor shall be required to perform two full shift sustainment watches for a minimum of 16 hours monthly.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

This announcement uses the direct hire authority for Police Officer Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Recruitment incentives may be authorized to eligible new hires.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.

This position is being recruited at the full performance level.

A forty-hour work week is typical of this position. Call back and emergency overtime may be requirements of this position.

Work may include assignments to train second, third, or rotating shifts or weekends and holidays.

Required to wear a uniform and comply with grooming standards.

You must successfully complete a required Police Training Academy or equivalent course. You must successfully complete any annual sustainment training, Level 1 Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) contamination training and OC refresher training.

This position may require conducting training on various shift working hours. Requires physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending, stooping, reaching, sitting, crawling and lifting and carrying of heavy objects 50 pounds or less, such as weapons and training equipment. Occasional travel is involved to field locations to coordinate training activities. Training is conducted in a classroom setting.

Work is performed where there is exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness. You may be required to use protective clothing or gear. Normal work place is in an office. Duties require visitation to classrooms, conferences, firearms ranges and other training sites. Physical exposure to lead and loud noises is incurred; however, protective measures such as advanced ventilation systems and hearing protection is afforded.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
