Summary

This position is within the Division of Epidemiology and Disease Prevention (DEDP), Office of Public Health Support (OPHS), Indian Health Service in Rockville, Maryland. The incumbent supports DEDP mission to collect, manage, analyze, and report on IHS, Tribal, and Urban Indian epidemiologic and disease surveillance data and data collections systems. The position reports to the Chief, Infectious Disease Branch, DEDP.

Help

  • Design, develop and deploy public health informatics tools, including front-end, back-end and middle-ware to enable surveillance and population-based studies of health status. Develop, evaluate and implement the integration of different aspects of public health informatics such as decision support, predictive modeling, and risk stratification using clinical informatics systems from heterogeneous data sources for disease and immunization surveillance and reporting.
  • Translate systems requirements into applications prototypes; plan and design systems and applications architecture; write, debug, and maintain programming computer code for databases and statistical analysis using standardized vocabularies for public health information; determine output media/formats; design user interfaces.
  • Establish appropriate data security provisions and protocols to enable access to and maintenance of public health data and personal health information.
  • Develop policies and procedures for public health informatics access and security and conduct and write professional documentation of work performed for both internal and external consumption including technical presentations, peer reviewed and non-peer reviewed publications.
  • Conduct assessments of the public health informatics environment, synthesize pertinent information and identify implications for planning and development and provide expert support for routine data collection, assess adequacy and quality of data, formulate, and execute statistical studies, for the purpose of identifying, analyzing, and reporting on public health problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Managing health data projects and/or programs using programming libraries or tools; and collaborating with public health researchers in collecting, managing, and preserving health data. Coordinating the management of health data and data systems. Initiating, formulating, planning, executing and controlling major statistical studies and projects. Serve as a consultant and advisor to top-level subject matter specialists or agency officials for broad public health research. Applying and communicating data trends or relationships and recommends organizational and business strategies to inform decisions. Developing and initiating health data and surveillance impacting policy and interpretation of resources requirement to establish statistical program management protocols, strategies and objectives for data collection, design and release between government agencies, stakeholders and tribal entities.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
