Duties

Help

If you are selected as the Budget Analyst, your responsibilities would include, but would not be limited to:

  • Serves a technical expert in budget execution and oversees funds for distribution in accordance with Congressional direction and compliance
  • Responsible for the budget execution of OIG appropriation and ensures funds are released as appropriate
  • Plans, organizes, and carries out annual, no year, and multiyear budgeting for direct and reimbursable funding
  • Makes ongoing recommendations for adjustments to the operating plan during the course of a given fiscal year to accommodate unanticipated changes in program operations and/or changes in available funding
  • Coordinates budget activities and provides long-range analysis of the potential effects of budgetary actions on objectives
  • Develops estimates for funding requirements, program execution review, and performs analysis and appraisal of the major operating and support programs.
  • Resolves execution problems by submitting for the reprogramming of appropriated funds, reductions in program scope or termination of programs, and defer release of program funding.
  • Reviews and coordinates accounting records. Monitors, tracks, and reports on program obligations.
  • Prepares briefs for senior leadership on program execution and expenditures and provides recommendations to correct program variances or problem areas
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-13 grade level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level obtained in the public sector. (Specialized experience is paid or unpaid experience which has equipped you with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.)

Specialized experience includes such duties as reviewing, editing, and consolidating budget estimates, projecting funding needs, analyzing and forecasting organizational spending, and reconciling and reporting on budgets.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade level (or equivalent).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
