Hourly:
WG-2: $15.96 (Step 01) to $18.61 (Step 5)
WG-3: $16.98 (Step 01) to $19.79 (Step 5)

NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

Duties

Help

As a Laborer within the Eastern Ecological Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

- Performs tasks that require moderately heavy physical effort and the use of common hand tools and simple power equipment.
- Loads and unloads trucks and other conveyances; opens heavy boxes and crates; stocks material for storage; moves and arranges furniture.
- Operates hand and power mowers (walking type), weed trimmers, and steam cleaners; shovels snow, sand and debris; cuts and clears small trees and brush along roads and fences using an axe, brush hook, hand saw or similar hand tools.
- Performs basic level daily inspection of facility operation equipment.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Work requires moderately heavy physical effort such as frequent lifting and carrying objectsweighing 40 pounds and occasional lifting and carrying of objects weighting up to 50 pounds.Work regularly involves walking, bending, stooping, reaching, standing for long periods of time,and pushing heavy items on carts or dollies.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work may be performed indoors or outdoors. While working outdoors the employee may beexposed to all kinds of weather conditions including rain, snow, heat, and cold. Indoors theemployee may be exposed to drafts, noise, and dust. The work involves the chance of incurringminor injuries such as bruises, cuts and scrapes.

Qualifications

There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform the basic work of the position without more than normal supervision through experience shown in the written resume and responses to the job related task statements in this announcement. To be basically qualified for this position applicants must meet the identified screen-out element below.

Screen-Out Element: Without more than normal supervision, perform the duties of a Laborer such as performing routine functions needed for basic construction and minor modifications of existing structures, plumbing, and grounds maintenance.
