Duties

Help

Teaches students in undergraduate civil engineering courses, including the associated duties of enforcing classroom standards, preparing course materials according to published course descriptions, and providing extra instruction outside of normal class hours for students who require it. Assists in the development and direction of undergraduate civil engineering courses. Provides well-organized instruction to facilitate, assess, and continuously improve cadet learning. Counsels and evaluates assigned students, providing student assessment and motivation. Initiates and conducts a program of research in the field of specialization which contributes to the body of knowledge. Prepares manuscripts, papers, journals, reports, and/or presentations containing the findings of research or scholarly study which are suitable for publication or other distribution. Pursues personal professional development through membership in professional organizations. Participates in conferences, webinars, or other events as a discussant or session organizer. Engages in scholarly and professional activities in order to maintain academic currency in the area of specialization. Performs appropriate administrative functions, as required, to ensure the timely and effective offering of courses. Keeps abreast of current training methods to ensure the most innovative and effective methods are being used. Guides the development of curriculum, instructional technology application, and research activities. Incorporates teaching concepts, mentoring methods, means of enhancing the students' learning processes, and educational strategies and techniques with fellow instructors. Plans, designs, develops, and implements course structure to ensure assignments and tests cover the necessary material and at the level desired for the course. Serves as an academic advisor to Civil Engineering majors. Directs and monitors instructors in the preparation and implementation of course material and content. Provides advice and counsel on, and suggests improvements to, the quality of educational programs. Participates in faculty governance by attending department and faculty meetings and serving, when requested, on departmental committees. As necessary, serves as mentor to junior faculty members. Effectively evaluates the integration of technology into the classroom, the curricula, and the other subject matters. Participates in other USAFA activities and events.

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
An earned Doctoral (must be completed by employment start date/application deadline) in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field. (NOTE: In addition to the application contents listed below, include a separate Teaching Statement and a separate Research Statement.)

ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES: Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Professional Registration; Industry Experience

Candidates will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.

Leadership experience in curriculum development and academic assessment is desired.

Applicants will be assessed based on education, evidence of teaching effectiveness, quality of scholarship, and demonstrated service to educational institutions and the discipline commensurate with years in the discipline.

Candidates with a record of peer-reviewed research and publications as well as structures and mechanics teaching experience are highly desirable.

EDUCATION:

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a transcript to be considered OFFICIAL, it should be printed on university letterhead and the registrar's official seal/signature must appear on the transcript. Your transcripts must also reflect the degree awarded/conferred date. Transcripts labeled UNOFFICIAL will not be accepted.

Upon request, ensure you include ALL transcripts to support your educational claims as stated in your curriculum vitae (resume) even if not required for this position.

FOREIGN EDUCATION:
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the educational requirements. However, you must show proof that the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying in the form of an "official" statement of U.S. equivalency from a Department of Education approved (non-federal) agency (i.e. AICE, NACES), who will complete a U.S. Standard of Education Conversion.

Tax Law Impact for PCS: On 22-Dec-2017, Public Law 115-97 - the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017" suspended qualified moving expense deductions along with the exclusion for employer reimbursements and payments of moving expenses effective 01-Jan-2018 for tax years 2018 through 2025. The law made taxable certain reimbursements and other payments, including driving mileage, airfare and lodging expenses, en-route travel to the new duty station, and temporary storage of those items. The Federal Travel Regulation Bulletin (FTR) 18-05 issued by General Services Administration (GSA) has authorized agencies to use the Withholding Tax Allowance (WTA) and Relocation Income Tax Allowance (RITA) to pay for "substantially all" of the increased tax liability resulting from the "2018 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" for certain eligible individuals.
