Duties

Help

  • Serves as the technical expert advisor to the Department of Athletics senior leadership and head coaches in the acquisition, fitting, and safety of current and state-of-the-art athletic sports equipment.
  • Provides coaches and cadet-athletes with guidance on specific equipment requirements as it relates to current NCAA and MWC guidelines.
  • Measures, fits, and ensures the serviceability and safety of sports equipment for football, men's and women's basketball, ice hockey, and baseball teams.
  • Recommends equipment modifications to staff, coaches, and cadet-athletes for functionality, proper fit, and safety.
  • Consult and collaborate with other equipment managers, coaches, athletic trainers, and vendors on industry standard current trends, new technologies, functionality, proper fit, and safety of sports equipment.
  • Recommends changes and improvements to sports equipment based on specialized knowledge to improve functionality and maintain the highest level of safety standards.
  • Keeps abreast of industry trends, latest state-of-the-art equipment, and safety via review of technical bulletins, manufacturer's catalogs, and network contacts.
  • Provides technical advice while investigating and analyzing safety, injuries, and equipment failures.
  • Determines specific team requirements based on knowledge of current inventory, new industry standard equipment, and new NCAA guidelines.
  • Makes recommendations to senior staff and head coaches on current inventory quantity and quality, safety, and reliability of equipment.
  • Responsible for accuracy and accomplishing required paperwork for equipment purchases and coordination of delivery.
  • If necessary, responsible for preparing appropriate and required documentation for sole-source justification of equipment.
  • Responsible for accurate accountability and security of athletic equipment, uniforms, and required apparel by establishing appropriate control procedures, conducting of inventory, and maintenance records.
  • Provides logistical support (i.e., sideline/bench assistance, loading/unloading of equipment).
  • Ensure proper coordination, inventory, packing, and transporting of equipment for home and away intercollegiate contests, post-season NCAA competition, and bowl games.
  • Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjusts priorities, and prepares work schedules.
  • Develops methods and processes to improve customer service and processes.
  • Hears and resolves complaints.
  • Effects disciplinary measures.
  • Identifies and arranges for needed development and training of subordinates.
  • Ensure oversight of athletic department equipment room organization, cleanliness and safety.
  • Prepare staging and presentation of facilities for tours and recruiting visits.
  • Abide by all DoD, USAF, USAFA, USAFA/AD, and NCAA policies, rules, regulations, instructions, and operational procedures.
  • May transport cadets as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:

  • Knowledge of industry-standard and state-of-the-art sports equipment and current NCAA bylaws related to sports equipment.
  • Prior NCAA Division I experience required.
  • Prior experience with NCAA Division I football is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in fitting football protective equipment; Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) certified.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and with professionalism in a fast-paced athletic environment.
  • Position required to work evening, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods and work in various environmental conditions.
  • Skilled in providing technical advice, analyzing, interpreting, and following manufacturer's guidelines, manuals, and technical data.
  • Must have ability to multi-task, plan, organize, prioritize, and reprioritize work to meet changing deadlines and dynamic environment.
  • Previous experience preparing and providing training to ensure proper fit and safety of equipment.
  • Knowledge of athletic fabric and materials, their difference, durability, care and maintenance.
  • Prior experience with computer and software platforms and industry-standard inventory systems.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Bachelor's degree is required.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
