Summary
The Division of Occupational Health and Safety (DOHS), Office of Research Services (ORS), National Institutes of Health (NIH) provides leadership and support in creating and maintaining a safe and healthful working environment in support of the overall NIH biomedical research mission by providing central administrative and technical services to plan, conduct, coordinate and support safety and health programs.
Supervises the planning, development, and management of safety programs related to industrial hygiene, biological and chemical hazards present in laboratory environments, and general industry safety.
Serves as the supervisor for a team of specialists responsible for industrial hygiene functions, biological registration and oversight, chemical safety, and regulatory compliance with other safety programs.
Manages inspection site visits from regulatory authorities and oversight entities to ensure NIH compliance with federal regulations.
Provides technical guidance and assistance in emergency situations such as spills, fires, or explosions pertaining to biological hazards.
Assists in preparation of manuals and other information on safety in biomedical research, and prepares papers on research safety for presentation at national and international meetings and for publication in professional journals.
U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, GS-0018 position, at the GS-14 level you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing direction and guidance in the planning, development, and management of safety programs related to industrial hygiene, biological and chemical hazards present in laboratory environments; using engineering controls to develop policies and procedures to minimize or eliminate risks in a biomedical research setting; developing policies and procedures relating the management of biocontainment and biosafety, and incidence response.
You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
