Duties

Help

You will serve as a Telecommunications Specialist (CYBER) and be responsible for planning, implementing and operating network services/systems to include hardware and virtual environments.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: 

  • Planning, implementing, and operating network services/systems.
  • Monitoring network capacity and performance.
  • Implementing new system design procedures, test procedures, and quality standards.
  • Integrating new systems into existing network architecture.
  • Providing feedback on network requirements, including network architecture and infrastructure.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-11 Grade Level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience may include: knowledge of CISCO (or equivalent) equipment to include maintenance and troubleshooting; knowledge of radio communication equipment (e.g. satellite, microwave, VHF/HF radio) to include configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting; use of an organization’s communications media (e.g., computer and telephone networks, satellite, fiber, wireless); assisting with securing network communications; providing data for cybersecurity program management project tasks; and researching network infrastructure contingency and recovery plans.

OR a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related

OR a combination of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in or related to the work of this position AND graduate level education that provided the specific knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position and experience.

To qualify for the GS-12 Grade level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience may include the following: knowledge of CISCO (or equivalent) equipment to include configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting; knowledge of aircraft and/or shipboard satellite communication and network equipment to include configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting; use of an organization’s communications media (e.g., computer and telephone networks, satellite, fiber, wireless); assisting with securing network communications; utilizing knowledge of Wi-Fi and Voice over IP (VOIP); contributing towards cybersecurity program management project tasks; and testing network infrastructure contingency and recovery plans.

To qualify for the GS-13 Grade level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience may include the following: utilizing knowledge of CISCO (or equivalent) equipment to include configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting; knowledge of aircraft and/or shipboard communication/network equipment to include developing procurement specifications and/or installation plans, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of commercial satellite telecommunication equipment and services and networking equipment; use of a wide range of communications media (e.g., computer and telephone networks, satellite, fiber, wireless); securing network communications; operating electronic communication systems and methods (e.g., e-mail, VOIP, IM, web forums, Direct Video Broadcasts), utilizing knowledge of Wi-Fi, Voice over IP (VOIP), and transmission records; applying cybersecurity program management and project management skills and principles; and implementing and testing network infrastructure contingency and recovery plans.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

  • Ability to apply good project management principles as they relate to contract schedule and performance
