Summary

Provide advice and assistance for statistical projects or studies that are new or significant departures from the relationships established in previous problems, studies, or investigations, causing outcomes that are usually original in nature.
Provide expert assistance in techniques such as logistic regression analysis, categorical data analysis, multiple regression analysis, and techniques involving mixed models, and applies innovative analytical approaches to surveillance and epidemiological investigations.
Provide authoritative advice on optimal research design and analysis methods and on the impact that alternative research/study designs may have on study analysis and validity.
Design and develop mathematical statistical models, methods, and/or techniques such as sample and survey designs for related data collection.
Evaluate data resulting from the application of mathematical statistical tools, models, methods and techniques to the public health area.
Serve as senior technical advisor developing methods and selecting techniques to conduct methodological research to improve sample surveys or experimental designs; to conduct evaluations of data collection, reduction, processing, and analysis methodologies.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
Applicants must have a degree that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics. OR
Applicants must have a combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience analyzing and reporting statistical data; and collaborating or consulting on the application of statistical techniques or methods relevant to public health or related fields.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
