Summary

The incumbent will serve as an information technology specialist in accessibility. Assist agency staff in the accessibility of software, to collect and document data in real time from Program Activities.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, some CDC employees have been authorized to work virtually. However, when CDC is cleared to return back to work, you will be required to report to the location identified in the vacancy announcement for which you applied.

Duties

Help

As a IT Specialist, you will:

  • Operate computer systems, and/or performs data processing support and service functions requiring knowledge of data processing sequences, procedures, user and/or programming languages, computer requirements, and/or techniques associated with the development and design of systems.
  • Provide support directly to computer users, such as providing computer training, or troubleshooting computer problems.
  • Maintain and update manuals, reference books, and/or software instructions associated with the programs and systems used in the organization.
  • Conduct analysis of systems and projects for accessibility requirements. Assesses tools, training, systems, and technologies for accessibility compliance and utilization.
  • Provide consultation and issue resolution related to complex Assistive Technology challenges and interoperability issues. Consults and remediates data visualization output and systems to accessibility standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for GS-5:

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-4 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience assisting with maintaining and updating manuals, reference books, and/or software instructions associated with the programs and systems used in the organization, and I have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication and Problem Solving;

OR have successfully completed 4 (four) years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university;

OR have a combination of specialized experience and education as described above to meet the 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

Minimum Qualifications for GS-7:

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-5 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include troubleshooting hardware and software issues, problems, assistive technology, internet accessibility evaluation, and computer setups and installs, and I have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication and Problem Solving;

OR 1 full year of graduate level education;

OR superior academic achievement.

OR have a combination of specialized experience and education as described above to meet the 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
