Duties

Help
  • Please note, during the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Agency is operating in a maximum telework posture for all telework ready employees occupying a telework eligible position.
  • Plan, schedule and assign work.
  • Coordinate material delivery requirements received from the Material Division.
  • Schedule truck movements to obtain the most effective use of the transportation available.
  • Initiate requests to the shipyard when an additional trucks and drivers are required to handle sporadic increases in workload.
  • Set up guidelines for moving materials from receipt to storage, for receipt of material movement requirements, for the truck drivers to follow in making deliveries.
  • Pick-ups and for storage of materials in accordance with the size, weight, length of storage and type of storage required.
  • Ensure that Material Handling Equipment (MHE) is properly handled, oiled and fueled or charged, and driven only by qualified personnel, and cognizant of preventive maintenance schedules to ensure timely repair and effective use of equipment.

Qualifications

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.

Additional information

Physical Effort: The work requires the ability to organize, arrange, and remove stock in storage areas in accordance with established procedures to prevent damage, deterioration, and loss. Most work requires the incidental or regular use of forklifts and motor vehicles.

Working Conditions: Most work is performed indoors but due to the nature of the business, unloading, loading, moving material on work sites, the incumbent may have long term exposure to weather and temperature extremes. Exposed to the hazards of fork lifts, trucks and cranes operating in close proximity. Must be careful of splinters, cuts and jamming of fingers or toes in handling of materials.
