Duties

Help
  • Perform comprehensive neurological, physical, cognitive, behavioral, visual, and neuro?musculoskeletal evaluations, taking into consideration each respective patient's physical and mental conditions.
  • Diagnose and treat a variety of different neuro?musculoskeletal disorders.
  • Assess posture, muscle tone, movement patterns and range of motion, muscle strength, reflex development, behavioral, sensory organization and feeding readiness skills.
  • Participate development of programs for care for patients undergoing hand and upper extremity rehabilitation - promote innovations in treatment, identifies problems/needs of occupational therapy practice/patient care requirements.
  • Assist in the orientation, instruction, and direction work activities of staff occupational therapy assistants/ technicians, occupational therapy students, and Red Cross Volunteers/aides.
  • Perform all administrative tasks that are commensurate with the clinical role and include the completion of reports, recommended staffing/equipment changes, etc.
  • Provides feeding evaluation and treatment for infants with congenital anomalies, mechanical deficiencies, poor endurance, oral aversion, and other conditions resulting in feeding difficulty.

  • IAW BUMEDINST 1500.15F Employees involve caring for pediatric patients, inpatient units, and critical care and specialty areas ... emergency room, neonatal intensive care, and pediatric intensive care must be trained in PALS.
  • IAW BUMEDINST 1500. l 5F Employees involve caring for newborn infants, i.e., in critical care, specialty areas such as neonatal intensive care, labor and delivery, and pediatric intensive care must be additionally trained in NRP.
  • IAW BUMEDINST 1500.1 SF Employees involve caring for newborn infants beyond the initial resuscitation period ... must be trained and certified in S.T.A.B.L.E.

Qualifications

ALL Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree that included an occupational therapy curriculum approved by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (You must submit a copy of your transcripts at the time of application. Failure to do so will result in an ineligible rating.)

And: Successful completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school. (You must submit a copy of documentation to support successful completion of the clinical at the time of application, if clinical requirement can is within the transcripts - make reference and/or -identify requirement can be found within the transcripts. Failure to do so will result in an ineligible rating.)

And: Certification/successful passing of the national examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). (You must submit a copy of your certification at the time of application. Failure to do so will result in an ineligible rating.)

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, you must also meet the following requirements.

For GS-12, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional occupational therapist

  • Provide complete occupational therapist services to a diverse population, (e.g. active duty military personnel, military families and other eligible beneficiaries), to restore maximum functional independence and productivity to those patients with various levels of physical, neurological and behavioral disorders as a result of a traumatic brain injury, stroke, and other neurological disorder/s;
  • Applying protocols and procedures in the prevention, mitigation and management of physical, neurological and behavioral disorders through professional evaluation and development of occupational therapy care plans;
  • Using occupational, (pediatric and adult), therapy theory, professional medical rehabilitation, therapeutic principles, extended clinical experience and training to develop individual treatment plans based upon the documented objective findings from the evaluation process, (i.e. evaluations, patient goals, current best evidence, and clinical reasoning);
  • Utilizing occupational therapeutic processing as they relate to the complex needs of high-risk infants, their families and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) environment; AND
  • Administering special procedures for patients with neuro and musculoskeletal disorders, such as ordering and reviewing x-rays, MRI's, bone scans, and other radiology studies, requesting routine lab tests, and recommending work and activity restrictions to include physical profiles.

IWA BUMEDINST 1500.lSF employees assigned to or subject to being assigned to duties providing direct patient care, either diagnostic or therapeutic must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

This position is a Testing Designated Position (TOP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.

The incumbent may be required to work on any day or shift, including night, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements. In accordance with policy
