This position is being filled under an Excepted Service Schedule B 213.3206(g) Authority. This will be a term appointment Not-to-exceed (NTE) 3 years with either a possible extension for another 3 years or converted to an indefinite appointment.

As a INSTRUCTOR at the GS-1701-13 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Performs instructor duties related to assigned subjects by teaching, conducting exercises, seminars, workshops, and tutorials in resident and non-resident courses and serves as guest lecturer/speaker at other agencies.
  • Serves in the capacity of Instructor of Security Cooperation Management at DSCU and will support the organizational goals through effective instruction for assigned academic Areas of Concentration (AoCs). These areas focus on programs and processes that support all DoD interactions with foreign defense establishments to build defense relationships that promote specific U.S. Security interests, develop allied and friend military capabilities for self-defense and multinational operations and provide U.S. forces with peacetime and contingency access to a host nation.
  • Acts as faculty focal point in areas of expertise, serving as a competency manager and/or regional/MILDEP (Military Department within the Dept of Defense) seminar director.
  • Establishes, coordinates and writes learning objectives and lesson outlines.
  • Provides consultation services in responding to specific requests and inquiries from DoD, other government agencies, former students, academia and the private sector.
  • Serves as a class manager, and if requested, course manager, and/or MILDEP/Regional seminar director.
  • Coordinates subject matter and faculty assigned to courses.
  • Oversees and participates in classroom setup, preparation and availability of course materials and all course administrative matters.
  • Relay theories, principles, practices and perform system analysis specific to Technology Transfer or Security Cooperation(SC) acquisition, or Security Cooperation logistics or Security Cooperation case management or Security Cooperation finance related to foreign military sales and SC case life-cycle management.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS 13 , if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service as listed below:

  • Advising, developing, implementing, and executing educational curriculum for a university or college.
  • Experience in the field of security cooperation.
In addition to the above you will need to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1701, series as listed below:
  1. Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.
OR

2. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
