Duties

Help
  • You will review all radioactivity control related plans and procedures.
  • You will assures adherence to radiological control requirements for assignments which involve numerous processes in several high skill level trades which include pipefitting, welding, machining and rigging.
  • You will improve radiological controls, correct deficiencies, increase efficiency, minimize exposure to radiation and prevent nuclear incidents.
  • You will assure compliance with radiological control requirements.
  • You will recommend improvements to procedures or plans as needed.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: In order to qualify for the GS-04 position your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months of general experience that demonstrates the applicants' ability to perform he work of the position or experience that provides a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.

AND

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-04: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal Service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector such as:

  • Assisting with applying standardized rules, procedures, and operations that apply to laboratory principles, methods and techniques.
  • Assisting with setting up, operating, maintaining and calibrating a variety of test equipment with known standards.
  • Assisting with selecting and applying standards and guidelines to determine which samples must be further tested and referred for further evaluation.
  • Assisting with gathering, recording, and assembling pertinent data and report observations and findings to appropriate personnel.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-05: In order to qualify for the GS-05 position your resume must demonstrate at least 1 year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level such as:
  • Assisting with utilizing radiation survey to implement radiation control requirements in assigned ship or ship or shipyard area(s).
  • Assisting with interpreting work plans to detect deviations from approved procedures and assure compliance with radiological safety requirements.
  • Assist with ventilation, detection, filtration, and containment material, equipment, and systems to assure adequacy of various standard containment and ventilation systems.

Education

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE for GS-04: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: successful completion of a full 2-year course of study above high school, that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics. (TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE PROVIDED)

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE for GS-05
: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of physical science, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in the fields physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics. (TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE PROVIDED)

Work Environment:

The employee frequently works near shielded or contained radiation sources where excessive exposure is highly likely.

You will work indoor and outdoor near machines, moving vehicles, drydocks, in good and bad weather.

Frequent use of protective clothing and devices and compliance with standard radiation control and safety regulations.

Physical Demands:

The technician frequently performs the following, walks over rough area undergoing repair and uneven surfaces such as railroad tracks, stoops, crouches, bends, reaches, lifts and carries equipment which weighs 50 pounds or more, climbs vertical ladders, staging and scaffolding, works in cramped, restrictive areas where movement requires caution to avoid interfering with on-going work, to avoid falls and bumps and to avoid damaging containment facilities.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
