As a Research Ecologist within the Wetlands and Aquatic Research Center, some of your specific duties will include:
Physical Demands: The work involves field studies in an array of locations from high to low elevation and conditions of extreme temperatures. Day and overnight hikes of 5-10 miles per day carrying 20- 35 pound packs may be necessary. Extended periods of data manipulation and analysis and manuscript preparation will require extended periods of working at a desk and computer terminal.
Work Environment: Field conditions include an array of climatic, topographic, and vegetation conditions with typical risks from hazardous plants, insects, pollen, dust, etc. The indoor work area has adequate light, heat and ventilation.

Category rating will be used in the ranking and selection process for this position. The quality categories are Best-Qualified, Well-Qualified and Qualified. The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are as follows:
1. Knowledge of scientific literature and contemporary, quantitative research approaches to the analysis and modeling of biological and ecological data as well as knowledge in the estimation and modeling of coastal avian populations.
2. Demonstrated use of emerging technologies (e.g., Weather Surveillance Radar, cellular and satellite networks, acoustic transmitters, light-level geolocators, etc.) in the field of avian ecology to understand and predict aspects of migratory connectivity, landscape-scale conservation, migratory phenology, persistence of local populations, disease transmission, transport of invasive species, or responses to climate change.
3. Knowledge of quantitative, structured decision making and adaptive management practices and their application towards conservation of natural resources.
4. Ability to interact successfully and cooperate with professional natural resource organizations, state, and federal natural resource agencies and university faculty including the ability to lead or participate in interdisciplinary, multiagency teams/committees to formulate information needs and interpret findings applicable to management decisions and actions.
5. Ability to synthesize and communicate complex technical information to scientific and management communities, including the ability to communicate research results through authorship of peer-reviewed scientific publications and presentations to professional audiences.
6. Knowledge of scientific literature and contemporary research approaches to the study of avian populations sufficient to plan and execute a research program including the ability to solicit/secure funding for research interests
