Duties

Help

As an instructor for the Leadership and Organizational Performance Department you will provide training, leadership, and expertise in the areas of leadership, management, strategic thinking, and facilitation.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: 

  • Providing professional advice and guidance on matters of instruction and leadership related courses and interventions.
  •  Participating in the developing and modification instructional courses content and materials using experiential and innovative methodologies.
  •  Providing classroom and performance based training in the areas of leadership, management, strategic thinking, and facilitation.
  •  Consulting with management and recommending revisions to improve training programs. Creating lesson plans, presentations, and learning aids for students.
  •  Conducting benchmarking to evaluate the effectiveness of learning programs via systems approach and innovative instructional methods.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. This includes Time-In-Grade requirements for current status employees applying through merit promotion procedures. Status applicants applying for a promotion must have 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis:

  1. Developing training/course materials, curriculum, aids, devices, etc. for students;
  2. Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the areas of leadership development, organizational/performance management, or strategic thinking;
  3. Conducting studies that evaluate program achievements and student learning needs;
  4. Participating in the developing and modification instructional courses content and materials using experiential and innovative methodologies.
