This position serves as a Staff Officer responsible for planning, coordinating, reviewing, & reporting for several natural resources.

Travel Required
Occasional travel - Travel may be required to attend meetings, training, project work, etc. Traveling 3 or 4 individual days a month for meetings and training. In addition, a total between 5 and 10 days a year may involve overnight stays.

Serves as a key member of the Forest Leadership Team to formulate plans, policies, and objectives for the Forest.
Makes recommendations and provides information concerning dependent communities and industry.
Responsible for the quality, quantity, and coordination of all work performed in the various program areas overseen.
Directs the activities of subordinate programs to ensure Forest Plan requirements and goals are accomplished.
Reviews all long range and short range action plans to ensure consistency with strategies and program emphasis in the approved Forest Plan.
Promotes ecosystem management, ensuring long term productivity and ecologically sustainable goals are implemented, maintained, and achieved
Coordinates Forest management of programs directed with public officials, industry representatives, and citizen groups.
Is responsible for program management, planning, budgeting and management information (PBMI) for identifying work force and organizational needs, and Forest priorities.
Is also responsible for ensuring program expenditures are legal, meet charged-as-worked and congressional intent, and remain within budget limits.
As designated, serves as Acting Forest Supervisor with full responsibility for decisions and actions.
Performs supervisory duties at least 25% of the time.
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.

Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

Basic Requirement for GS-0401 series:
Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position;

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major field of study that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Related course work generally refers to courses that may be accepted as part of the program major;
OR
Combination of education and experience that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, AND experience sufficient to demonstrate that I possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation that is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field needed to perform the work of the occupation.
