Circulation duties comprise 60% of incumbent’s time and include but are not limited to:
Monitors all circulation and technical service operations and resolves problems and deviations.
Evaluates circulation and technical service policies, procedures, and processes and recommends improvements.
Utilizes on-line databases and computer systems to facilitate circulation, technical service, and reference duties.
Performs descriptive cataloging.
Answers more in-depth or difficult questions that require the use of outside sources.
Provides reference services to library customers by locating bibliographical information using standard library reference tools such as guides, indexes, bibliographies, professional directories, and the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).
Explains general resources of the library and assists library customers with all customer available library equipment.
Makes decisions regarding titles for purchase and inclusion in the collection.
Programming and Outreach duties comprise 20% of incumbent’s time and include but are not limited to:
Develops the library programming and marketing plan.
Administers library programs and prepares an after-action report and evaluation.
Represents the library at public relations meetings.
Conducts library tours, orientations, and outreach activities
Computer Services duties comprise 10% of incumbent’s time and include but are not limited to:
Assists patrons with access to computer network, by resolving any hardware or software related problems they may experience in achieving desired results within program applications. This includes training patrons in web navigation and the use of all other software applications such as Microsoft Office.
Develops functional requirements for upgrade or other modification of automated systems in order to support both end-user requirements, circulation, inter-library loan, OPAC, management needs, bibliographic inventory, shelf lists and system usage reports.
Reviews, evaluates and makes recommendations for selection of computer hardware and software.
Advises management about the need to replace and or upgrade computers.
Administration duties comprise 10% of incumbent’s duties and include but are not limited to:
Monitors library expenditures, account balances, and financial records.
Provides supervisor with necessary figures for quarterly financial updates and the annual report.
Uses varied and advanced functions of word processing to prepare, format, modify, edit, and print a variety of letters, memos, and other text documents.
Recognizes differences in existing procedures and applications and makes choices from among established alternatives.
Receives and transmits electronic messages with attachments and documents as appropriate.
Prepares and issues overdue notices in accordance with library policy and procedures.
Monitors overdue records and processes cases where the delinquent borrower has relocated.
Ensure procedures for reconciling lost or damaged books are implemented properly.
Explains ways by which obligation for a book can be satisfied.
Reviews and modifies standard operating procedures for the library.
Knowledge of library rules, policies, and procedures for circulation and technical service.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
Ability to work cohesively with peers and the general public.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English.
Familiarity with publishers’ and suppliers’ methods of operation
Knowledge of marketing and publicity techniques and of interest and needs of customers and organizations served to promote library use
Successful completion of a National Agency Check is required.
Must be able to work varied work schedules to include evenings, weekends, holidays as well as split shifts.
