Summary

This position is located at the United States Mint, San Francisco, CA in the Manufacturing Department . Duties

Help

As a Buffer and Polisher, you will:

  • Operate computer-controlled polishing machines, computer-controlled laser etching machines, and computer-controlled physical vapor deposition (PVD) machines to transform raw dies to proof-set dies.
  • Perform hand-operated buffers and polishers to achieve a level of detail and perfection that cannot be achieved solely using computer-controlled equipment.
  • Evaluate dies, selects appropriate cleaning solutions and methods of application, and clean dies for inspection

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service.

Physical effort requires standing and sitting for long periods of time; using arms, fingers and hands to position, repair, store, document, locate or dispose of equipment and material. The incumbent consistently handles machinery, equipment, tools, instruments and material that weighs up and occasionally more than 10 pounds. The work also requires walking, stooping, bending, frequent lifting, and moving of items that weigh up to 30 pounds.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • All employees are required to wear face masks while on MINT property.

  • Pass a pre-employment physical examination.
