TMS technical support and assistance:
The incumbent provides technical support and assistance on the proper use of TMS in support of the deinstallation, movement, and reinstallation of artifacts at the National Mall Building.
Registration support of Transformation activities:
The incumbent assists with the creation or augmentation of artifact records within TMS, adding information to those databases such as object locations, dimensions, condition surveys, or other data as well as digital images of relevant artifacts. The incumbent collaborates with the Collections Processing Unit, Conservation Unit, and Preservation and Restoration Unit with respect to digital descriptive data and photographic documentation maintained in TMS and the Smithsonian Digital Asset Management System (DAMS) and assists Collections Department staff in completion of associated documentation tasks.
Barcode Manager technical support and assistance:
The incumbent provides technical support and assistance on the automated barcode tracking system that utilizes the TMS plug-in, Barcode Manager, and barcode scanning hardware. They oversee the use of the installed hardware and software to ensure proper recording of object moves and perform basic training and troubleshooting on issues related to the tracking of artifacts.
Planning, tracking and reporting Registrarial activities related to Transformation:
The incumbent supports NASM registration and collections management activities related to Transformation installation and deinstallation. The incumbent complies and reports on information from the Collections Department Units and TMS. The incumbent reviews and provides input during the planning phases of projects to inform the work sequence and communicates to the team members any registrarial or object tracking issues that may impact the project.
Qualification requirements must be met within 30 days of the job announcement closing date.
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, are not required to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.
For this position, applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, IS-07, in the Federal Service or equivalent.
For this position, specialized experience is defined as: working with aerospace artifact collections; documenting artifacts including artifact cataloging, preparing condition reports and conducting inventories; performing object moves, data entry, complex searches within a computerized museum collections management system; and communicating effectively in oral and written forms.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid work on the same basis as for paid experience. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. To receive credit for such experience you must indicate clearly the nature of the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the average number of hours per week spent in such employment on your online resume.
Note: Your specialized experience must have been in a position(s) equivalent to duties for the occupation at the next lower grade level for the position being filled as defined by applicable Federal standards.
There is no basic education requirement for this position. Education can be used as a alternate to meeting the specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level. If education is used as a substitute for specialized experience applicant must have: master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
