Duties

Help
  • You will operate passenger and school buses to transport school-aged children
  • You will notify supervisor or dispatcher if disturbances prevent the safe operation of the bus
  • You will report all violations of the Student Code of Conduct
  • You will operate school bus safety controls to include warning lights and swing arm stop signs
  • You will complete trip tickets and accident reports (if needed)
  • You will perform pre and post trip vehicle inspections and report identified issues

  • You must possess and maintain a Class "B" (or higher) CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements and shall provide a copy of your CDL with your application.
  • You must obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle Operator's Permit within a period pending availability of testing.
  • You must complete all assigned training and obtain and maintain all required certifications.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random drug testing.
  • You must pass pre-employment physical.
  • You must have normal hearing with or without corrective devices.
  • This position requires the ability to lift up to 45 lbs and perform moderate amount of pushing, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, repeated bending, and climbing.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You will be required to pass an American Red Cross accredited CPR training course within a period pending availability of training administered by the employer.
  • You must be able to distinguish between colors and shades of colors.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to perform the duties of a Motor Vehicle Operator as demonstrated by experience, working under normal supervision, operating School Buses, over public roads; overseeing the loading, and unloading of passengers, handling the controls for starting, stopping, backing, shifting and driving the vehicle; judging overhead and side clearances, turning radius, and braking distance from the preceding vehicle; following prescribed routes; maintaining route schedules; understanding and applying safety rules and regulations, using defensive driving techniques; conducting pre and post trip vehicle inspections; completing trip tickets and accident reports (as needed); notifying supervisors or dispatchers if disturbances prevent the safe operation of the bus. and the possession of an Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
