Serves as a subject matter expert for forensics accounting procedures, methodologies, and theories in the identification, examination, and analysis of financial data by applying professional accounting principles, techniques, and theories to assist in the development of cases for administrative, civil, or criminal action, and formulating case settlement valuations.
Provides subject matter expertise regarding identification of improper use and/or movement of funds by awardee institutions or individuals. Consults case agents and attorneys to determine specific objectives and requirements involving forensics accounting aspects of investigations.
Reconstructs and analyzes partial or inadequate financial records of individuals and/or organizations. Reviews accounting systems and identifies internal control weaknesses.
Provides expert or summary witness testimony in criminal and civil proceedings as it relates to forensics accounting analysis.
Researches and responds to questions related to forensics accounting and/or accounting anomalies to assist investigative staff throughout the lifecycle of investigations.
Prepares accurate, clear, and logical reports, and develops and presents sound recommendations related to accounting aspects of OIG cases as a recognized technical expert.
Serves as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) on contracts that support OIG operations. Maintains a COR file for all contracts and addresses contractor deficiencies, as necessary.

To meet the basic education requirement for this occupation, all candidates must have completed at least 4 years of college, and hold a 4-year or advanced degree in a field such as business administration, finance, or public administration, that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 semester hours may include up to 6 hours of business law. OR
Have completed 4 years experience in accounting or 4 combined years of accounting experience, higher education, & training to include 1 of the following: 24 semester hours in accounting/auditing or a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor gained by written examination or completed degree requirements to include substantial, but less than 24 hours, accounting coursework and worked successfully at the full-working level in accounting, auditing, or a related field.

In addition to meeting the basic education requirement described above, to qualify for the GS-14, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the federal service serving as an advisor in resolving issues that impact forensic accounting programs; providing analysis and advice on complex forensic accounting issues; developing policy guidance on forensic accounting program issues; managing special projects for major office issues; utilizing analytical techniques to perform complex financial examinations, and recommending solutions and implementing new processes.
