Summary

This position is located In Region 6 on the Wallowa Whitman National Forest, Hells Canyon National Recreation Area in Clarkston, WA.

This position performs variety of duties in support of the unit's river management program in the areas of fisheries, recreation, wildlife, trails and special uses.

Duties

Help

  • Communicates with and educates the public on recreation and river use.
  • Works with river outfitter guides on special use permit administration and compliance.
  • Operates jet boats, rafts, and kayaks in navigation of class II to V whitewater rapids.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-06: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Qualifying specialized experience is defined as possessing current proficiency in operating jet boats, rafts, and kayaks in navigation of class II to V whitewater rapids. In addition, one or more of the following must be met: Assisted with the planning and implementation of various recreation projects; provided information to users of river/recreational areas and/or facilities on resource management practices, recreation use regulations, opportunities, and restrictions; Patrolled recreation areas to ensure sites were operated, used, and maintained in accordance with management plans; Performed routine recreation site maintenance; collected and reported recreation program data for use in monitoring and assessment activities and summarized data for use in recreation data management systems; Inspects outfitter operations for plan/policy compliance; takes necessary follow-up action for items of noncompliance; makes recommendations to immediate supervisor relating to special use permit administration.


For the GS-07: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service. Qualifying specialized experience is defined as possessing current proficiency in operating jet boats, rafts, and kayaks in navigation of class II to V whitewater rapids. In addition, one or more of the following must be met: Operated and trained others on jet boats, rafts and kayaks in navigation of class II to V whitewater rapids; Trained others in whitewater reading skills and whitewater rescue; Planned and implemented the logistics required for completion of various recreation projects, such as river, non-river, trail maintenance and reconstruction projects; Inspected recreation area clean-up operations; provided information to users of river/recreational areas and/or facilities on resource management practices, recreation use regulations, opportunities, and restrictions; Patrolled recreation areas to ensure sites were operated, used, and maintained in accordance with management plans; performed site maintenance, including cleanup and naturalizing at widely dispersed sites; collected and reported recreation program data for use in monitoring and assessment activities and summarized data for use in recreation data management systems; Explained regulations concerning river management and developed and conducted river education programs in the local community; Inspects outfitter operations for plan/policy compliance; takes necessary follow-up action for items of noncompliance; makes recommendations to immediate supervisor relating to special use permit administration.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Education will not be used in lieu of specialized experience.
