Duties

Help

As a IT Cybersecurity Specialist (DIRECT HIRE), you will:

  • Serve as an expert and has a mastery of and skill in cyber threat research/hunting and digital investigations.
  • Serve as an advisor to the CISO on all matters relating to cyber threats to CDC information systems.
  • Conduct cyber threat assessments of security hardware/software and when appropriate, arranges presentation guidance documents on cyber threats affecting the organization.
  • Remain abreast of intelligence detailing cyber adversaries targeting public health entities and scientific research of interest to the CDC.
  • Perform work in evaluation of emerging technology to accomplish cyber threat intelligence collection and analysis.
  • Work with CDC Centers/Institutes/Offices (CIOs) to identify cyber intelligence requirements and computer security, outline the parameters and characteristics of the system, and ensure that the resulting intelligence product meets the needs of the user(s).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience conducting all source analysis of threat data to determine relevance to the organization; experience in profiling and prioritizing cyber adversaries that may pose a threat to organizational resources; experience in assessing and correlating disparate incidents to identify computer network exploitation (CNE) campaigns targeting the organization; experience leveraging digital forensics methodology to assess the impact of cyber intrusion activity against organizational information systems; experience distilling and presenting cyber threats to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences; Experience in information sharing with external parties to enrich intelligence analysis; Experience in identifying and addressing intelligence collection shortfalls; Experience reviewing finished intelligence and determining relevance to the organization and I have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication and Problem Solving.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
