Duties

Help
  • Analyze archeological data in preparing reports, for situations where precedents are not fully applicable.
  • Compile and report information about the nature and extent of known cultural resources.
  • Adapt ground search strategies as determined by specific project requirements i.e., terrain, vegetation cover, and time frames.
  • Insure that archeology work assignments are carried out in safe, timely manner according to established standards and procedures.
  • Apply scientific methods to survey parcels of land to determine likely sites of archeological interest.
  • Prepare Cultural Resource Inventory reports and site forms.
  • Responsible for the preparation of archeological and historical information to create interpretive materials for display and dissemination.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-07: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as meeting three out of the five following tasks: Conducting cultural resource inventories to identify archaeological sites in the field; Preparing reports that document a project's environmental and cultural backgrounds, methodologies, and findings; Identifying and recording on maps and in GIS databases the exact locations of archaeological sites, features, and artifacts; Creating archaeological and historical interpretive materials for display and dissemination; Monitoring archaeological projects to ensure sufficiency of fieldwork and cultural site documentation.

Substitution of Education for Experience:One (1) full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as: anthropology, archeology, history); OR combination of graduate level education and specialized experience that together meets the requirements of the position. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly document the following for each block of work experience; the beginning day, month and year the work assignment started and ended; the hours worked per week; position title, and series and grade if applicable; and description of duties performed.
