Duties

Help
  • Performs minor grounds maintenance to include ensuring entrances and exits are free from debris, sidewalks are clear of ice/snow, and surfaces under playground structures are maintained according to safety requirements.
  • Monitors outside areas to ensure proper installation provided grounds and maintenance support have been received. Conducts and documents daily safety inspections of facility and grounds.
  • Ensures children and youth know how to safely evacuate the bus. Practices bus evacuation following prescribed procedures with children and youth on a monthly basis. Documents all drills in writing.
  • Drives government provided vehicles to pick up and deliver supplies and food from the original source to the facility.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of children, youth and adults being transported to and from the program and on field trips. Maintains control of and accountability for children and youth at all times.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
  • Meet qualification/eligibility/physical/background requirements for this position.
  • A one year probationary period may be required (either initially or upon conversion, if applicable).
  • Successful completion of annual training requirements within the prescribed time frame and demonstrated on the job competence is required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) Check.
  • Complete and signed DA 3433 is required prior to entrance on duty.
  • Schedule includes irregular hours, evenings, and/or weekends. Duties involve working both indoors and outdoors under different types of weather conditions.
  • This position requires mandatory drug testing. This position is covered by the DA Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program. Incumbent is required to sign DA Form 5019-R.
  • This position has critical safety or security responsibilities and as such has been designated as a testing designated position (TDP).
  • As a condition of employment, incumbent of a TDP is subject to a random drug test that occurs without suspicion that a particular individual is using illegal drugs.
  • As a driver exerts physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls.
  • A current health assessment and immunizations IAW current Army and DoD policy including annual influenza vaccinations.
  • Works also in a kitchen setting, exposed to the possibility of cuts scrapes and burns.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment of background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, Chapter 2-16, and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation is required.
  • There is a requirement to lift and carry items up to 40 pounds frequently and items that are heavier with the assistance of other employees or lift equipment.
  • Work assignments require walking on a variety of surfaces, climbing, kneeling, stooping, pulling, pushing, standing, twisting, and sitting.
  • The incumbent must have the physical, mental, oral, visual, and audio ability at a level to assure the duties described are performed in a safe and satisfactory manner.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Exposed to dirt and fumes, and the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving.
  • Drives outside in all kinds of weather in a controlled traffic environment throughout a military installation.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
  • Ability to communicate in English at a level to assure the duties described can be accomplished in a safe and satisfactory manner.
  • Experience in accomplishing the types of duties described in this job.
  • Requires a valid state driver's license.
  • Requires a valid state driver's license to operate a 15 passenger vehicle. OR
  • Requires a commercial drivers license (CDL) with no restrictions to operate a 24 passenger vehicle.
  • Position requires the skills and knowledge to perform a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and related structures, fixtures, and utilities.
  • Must be skilled in use and operation of common hand and power tools and measuring devices of the carpentry and painting trades to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Performs visual examinations and operational tests to determine the need for, and the performance of, basic repair work.
  • Skills and knowledge in the use of standard tools manual and power, lawnmowers, weed eaters, vacuum cleaners, etc.
  • Skills in reading, writing and speaking English to the degree required to perform the tasks associated with this job in a safe and satisfactory manner.
  • Knowledge of sanitation standards and procedures to prevent cross contamination when working with food items.
  • Knowledge of commonly used rules, procedures, and operations pertaining to the basic safety and security of the assigned area and the people, facility, and equipment within the area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge and skills to operate and maintain government assigned vehicles and to make judgments concerning loading and arranging cargo on these vehicles, routes to take, overhead and side clearances, turning radius, braking distance, ability to care for passengers and deal effectively with people in a hospitable manner, and follow maps when traveling to unfamiliar locations.
  • Knowledge is required of the required regular preventive maintenance in maintaining these vehicles and the ability to detect developing maintenance problems.
  • Skills in defensive driving and adjusting driving conditions to road conditions and the vehicle being driven.
