Duties

Help

  • This position, in the National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) within the International Trade Administration, is responsible for working with senior NTTO economists to produce, interpret and manage primary U.S. government travel and tourism statistics; analyze large, complex datasets; prepare quantitative analyses as it relates to domestic and international travel; produce analytical reports and visualization products utilizing statistical or data management software, specifically Excel and Power BI software; and manage statistical content on the NTTO website.
  • Working with the Deputy Director to defines the organization's goals in accordance with the Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration Senior Management and Congressional priorities
  • The position requires the ability to determine data relationships.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic AND Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below.

Basic Requirement: You must meet one of the items listed below (A or B):A. Degree: possess a bachelor's degree or higher in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. (Must provide transcripts.)B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Must provide transcripts.)

AND

Minimum Qualifications, GS-09:You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service that includes the following:

  • Assisting with research and analysis n economic, trade, competitiveness or political issues relating to countries' services exports;
  • Assisting with evaluation the competitiveness of the travel and tourism sector or services exports including economic, market share, characteristics and other factors affecting trade within an industry or geographic area.
OR two full years of progressively higher level directly related graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree; or a combination of the required experience and education for this grade level.

GS-11: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal government, performing the following duties:
  • Assisting with research and analysis n economic, trade, competitiveness or political issues relating to countries services exports;
  • Assisting with evaluation the competitiveness of the travel and tourism sector or services exports including economic, market share, characteristics and other factors affecting trade within an industry or geographic area; and
  • Participating in the development of concise but comprehensive position papers for the purpose of informing your superiors or recommending a course of action.
OR three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, e.g. LL.M. at an accredited college or university in a field that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to conduct the work of this position; or a combination of the required experience and graduate level education for this grade level.

The physical worksite for this position is located in Washington, D.C. However, the International Trade Administration is currently under a maximum telework posture due to the COVID-19 pandemic; therefore, this position is currently under a 100 percent telework schedule. The position's telework schedule will likely change in the future when International Trade Administration moves away from its maximum telework posture. At that time, the incumbent will be expected to report to the physical work site in accordance with the updated status requirements of their supervisor. The nature and scope of future telework opportunities will be subject to the unit's telework policy, any applicable bargaining unit agreements, and supervisory approval. Payment of relocation expenses, as applicable, will be paid in accordance with this Job Opportunity Announcement.
