Staff Professional Mental Health Counselor assigned to Outpatient Mental Health (OPMH) or Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP)/Domiciliary.
1. Provides counseling and/or psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, and families in collaboration with multidisciplinary mental health staff to serve Veterans as needed or assigned.
2. Provides group counseling services in collaboration with multidisciplinary mental health staff for all Veterans seeking mental health treatment.
3.Consults with Medical Center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues.
4. Willingly accepts additional and special assignments that are necessary to meet program goals or Veteran needs.
5. Completes all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or healthcare system in a timely and accurate manner, as appropriate.
6. Provides case management services to assist Veteran patients to gain access to needed medical, social, educational, and other services.
Other Significant Responsibilities (5% time)
1. Serves on mental health committees or task forces.
2. Represents the Medical Center at professional/program community group/events and committees.
3. Participates in ongoing performance improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/31/2021. Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Hold a master's degree in mental health counseling, or a related field, from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Examples of related mental health counseling fields include, but are not limited to, Addiction Counseling; Community Counseling; Gerontology Counseling; Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling; and Marriage and Family Therapy. A doctoral degree in mental health counseling may not be substituted for the master's degree in mental health counseling.

License: Persons hired or reassigned to LPMHC positions in the GS-101 series in VHA must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice mental health counseling, which includes diagnosis and treatment. ***MUST BE LICENSED.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation).
Grade Determinations: GS-11 Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (Full Performance Level)
(a) Experience, Education, and Licensure. In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must have at least 1 year of post-master's degree mental health counseling experience;

In addition to the basic requirements, a doctoral degree in mental health counseling, or a related field may be substituted for the required 1 year of professional mental health counseling experience.

Physical Requirements:WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation.
