  • Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
  • Engineering technicians perform duties in one or more specialty areas of engineering technology such as: Aerospace, Architecture, Materials, or Mechanical.
  • Develops test plans, documents test processes/procedures, evaluates test results and makes necessary design adjustments to achieve desired results.
  • Develops detail drawings and, as required, solid models to support detail development.
  • Applies CAD software (Creo Elements/Pro) to tasks that are non-routine, requiring varied approaches learned in previous training to develop the detail drawings.
  • Work assignments are focused blocks of work, such as a set of detail drawings supporting a larger assembly of a project being led by a senior designer.
  • Analyzes the Product Data Management software to release and change the detail drawings as required.
  • Designs and documents novel test procedures, evaluates test results and makes necessary design adjustments to achieve an operational facility.
  • Prepares engineering evaluation tests of equipment such as prototypes of experimental hardware conceived and designed by engineers.
  • Collaborates with project engineers to determine the methods and techniques that will yield valid test results and establishes procedures and sequences necessary to conduct tests.

Qualifications

To qualify for GS-09, you must have:
a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level in the Federal service that includes participating in the development of solid models leading to the creation of detail and assembly drawings for hardware and supporting senior designers in larger assembly projects
OR
b) Completed all requirements for a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in engineering, engineering technology, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.
OR
c) Completed at least 2 full academic years of graduate education in engineering, engineering technology, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.
OR
d) An equivalent combination of experience and graduate education

To qualify for GS-10, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service that includes working on a team with detail designers developing solid models leading to the creation of detail and assembly drawings for hardware and performing test procedures and evaluates test results of the facility;

To qualify for GS-11, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 level in the Federal service that includes working on a team with detail designers overseeing the development of solid models leading to the creation drawings for hardware and CAD software; and overseeing the test plans and procedures and performs design adjustments for process improvements.

This appointment may be extended beyond the initial appointment date, for a period not to exceed a total of six years.
