Duties

Help

The Director, ATO Technical Training, provides strategic and technical advice and guidance on establishing policy and directing the development, delivery and quality control of all mission support technical training and safety initiatives for the ATO. The Director, is responsible for ensuring the integration of ATO technical training efforts and for aligning the technical training with ATO and agency goals. The Director reports to the Vice President, Safety and Technical Training, and administers a budget of approximately $85M in the execution of duties through a multi-layered, geographically dispersed team of approximately 100 employees responsible for safety and technical training, services and requirements.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Oversees the overall design, management and delivery of an integrated technical training strategy that addresses short and long-term training needs including initial certification, refresher, proficiency, skills and remedial training.

  • Develops the design standards for training, evaluating training, cataloging, and indexing content for the overall technical training curriculum.

  • Provides strategic direction for the development of policies and standards for ATO technical training activities and ensures that policies are consistent with overall organizational strategy.

  • Monitors performance outcomes to ensure standards, technology management and acquisition outcomes for technical training are in compliance with FAA policy.

  • Administers the training programs for the FAA Academy and field controller training requirements for the Controller Training Solutions.

  • Ensures that business and administrative processes, budget activities and performance expectations are aligned and consistent across the service unit and supports the ATO mission in the planning and execution of a $85M budget.

  • Communicates and collaborates with Executives across the Agency and the Federal government, training organizations, and state and local governments on all matters pertaining to ATO technical training to obtain cooperation and support for program objectives.

Qualifications

  • LEADERSHIP REQUIREMENT: Do you have experience leading strategic change? If yes, describe examples of strategic changes that you led for your organization; describe the entities that the change affected (agency, industry, organizational components). Discuss obstacles you encountered and how you overcame them to the benefit of the agency. Include in your description ways that you applied long-range vision, developed strategies, and applied innovative ideas and techniques.
  • TECHNICAL REQUIREMENT: Demonstrated experience leading an organization responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of training.
  • TECHNICAL REQUIREMENT: Demonstrated experience managing budgets and contracts.
