GS-05: $35,265 to $45,847 GS-06: $39,311 to $51,103 GS-07: $43,683 to $56,790
Under the close guidance of a senior staff member, the incumbent will operate as a member of a team with other foresters, forest technicians and specialists on forestry-related projects as determined by the Field Office's annual work plan. He/she will identify the work to be done, plan and carry out the procedural and technical steps required, seek assistance as needed, independently coordinate the work efforts with other specialists or outside parties, and generally submits completed work.
The incumbent will perform and evaluate a wide range of timber sale support activities. The forestry technician assists with the tree planting contract administration, delineation and traversing of sale boundaries, collects forest inventory data from timber cruises, marks or designates timber to be removed in timber sales or for use in disposals. Collects information for, and prepares necessary reports on forest trespass cases, road layout projects, and other duties as qualified and assigned.
May be required to complete background investigation and drug screening.

You cannot hold an active real estate license, nor can you have an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal Lands.
Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for this Forestry Technician position at the GS-05 grade level you must possess one of the following:
A. One full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following in a developmental capacity: (1) Collecting forest inventory data; (2) preparing necessary reports on forest management; and (3) using various equipment necessary for data collection.

B. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science. No more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable. You must submit transcripts for verification.

C. An equivalent combination of the specialized experience stated in 'A' and education stated in 'B'. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to one year of specialized experience. Determine the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the year of specialized experience required in 'A'. Then determine the education as a percentage of the education that meets the requirements for 'B'. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must submit transcripts for verification.
In order to qualify for this Forestry Technician position at the GS-06 grade level you must possess the following:
One full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following in a developmental capacity: (1) conducting segments of forest inventories; (2) conducting layout and administration of various forest activities; and (3) compiling maps of forest and woodland areas, cutover areas, burned areas, and/or special use areas.
In order to qualify for this Forestry Technician position at the GS-07 grade level you must possess one of the following:
A. One full year of specialized experience, comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following: (1) Recognizing variations in timber stand conditions such as species composition, age classes, and/or silvicultural treatments; (2) evaluating a wide range of timber sale support activities; and (3) conducting field surveys of timber sale boundaries, roads, and/or property lines.

B. Successful completion of 1 full year of graduate level education which included courses directly related to the work of the position such as: such as forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science. You must submit transcripts for verification.

C. An equivalent combination of the specialized experience stated in 'A' and education stated in 'B'. Determine the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the year of specialized experience required in 'A'. Then determine the education as a percentage of the education that meets the requirements for 'B'. (Only education in excess of the first 9 semester hours of graduate level education is eligible for this combination). Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must submit transcripts for verification.

Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

Physical Demands: The work ranges from sedentary when completing duties in the office to frequent field work requiring a considerable amount of walking, climbing, stooping, bending, and lifting.
Working Environment: Office work is performed in adequately lighted, heated, and air conditioned offices. Much of the time is spent in the field where exposure to extremes of heat and cold, rough and slippery terrain, wet weather, insects, snakes, deadfalls and other hazards are common. The employee will carefully adhere to all safety procedures to mitigate hazards encountered.
The Bureau of Land Management has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
