The incumbent will report to the Chief of Dental Service at the Clarksburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Staff dentist duties include performing all phases of dentistry including but not limited to: restorative dentistry, fixed and removable prosthodontics, periodontics and oral surgery. Incumbent must have diagnostic skills to triage, diagnose, and manage a broad spectrum of dental problems in a patient population who are medically complex and compromised.

Perform exams to diagnose immediate and future need of patients to include examining for small cracks, diseases of the gums, level of plaque.

Treat patients with chronic and co-morbid conditions.

Provide guidance to dental assistants, hygienists and laboratory technicians.

Practice in accordance with accepted and professional standards, organizational values, and with a commitment to excellent customer service.

Responsible for administrative duties associated with clinical patient and care.

Complete electronic health records for services provided for patients.

Comply with all JC standards, VA Dental Derives and ensure guidelines are in place with timely updates as required, to include eligibility criteria.

Provide mentorship to dental team, residents and students.

Learn and apply eligibility standards of the clinic.

Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Part-Time, 8 hour shift, Saturday. Subject to change depending on need of the facility.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.


Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 15LBS and light carrying less than 15 pounds. Straight pulling, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, standing 4 hours, repeated bending, ability for rapid mental muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable at 13' to 16' to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, depth perception, ability to distinguish shades of colors, and hearing (aid permitted).

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
