Duties

Help

The primary purpose for this position is to coordinate the external engagements for senior leadership and to develop and execute communication strategies to promote NSF policies, core values, strategic plan, research initiatives, and accomplishments to encourage governments, academia and industry to work toward a common understanding of NSF's science and engineering research and education priorities, goals, and benefits. Specifically:

Develops a variety of written materials, especially formal speeches and remarks, for the Director and Deputy Director on research and education issues and goals for the nation.

Researches, develops, assembles, and formats fact sheets and other material. Conceptualizes, researches, and prepares written articles for technical scientific information for use by the Director/Deputy Director at public and private meetings and in public presentations.

Coordinates across OLPA to assist the Director and Deputy Director in preparing materials for presentation.

Coordinates with the Creative Services Branch on audio/visual components of external engagements.

Develops and maintains reliable information sources within and outside NSF. Cultivates a comprehensive knowledge of STEM research and education policy and related issues.

Collaborates with the Public Affairs and Legislative staff to improve public relations and technical information products and services.

Prepares background information on science policy issues; identifies trends, analyses, and issues meriting attention; and conducts reviews of relevant publications and media.

Provides professional level editing and editing advice to the Director/Deputy Director and other senior officials on writing.

Generates relevant scientific and/or administrative data used to prepare analytical and interpretative reports and guides. Analyzes and summarizes special tabulations and related materials for this purpose.

Qualifications

For the GS-13 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in Federal service developing written materials for senior officials such as speeches, lectures, congressional testimony, presentations, talking points, and editorials on scientific topics; researching and assisting in the development of communication strategies; cultivating reliable information sources within the scientific community; and analyzing data to create reports and STEM presentation materials. 

Education

Education may enhance skills required for this position; however, no substitution of education for specialized experience may be made at this level.
