This National Guard position is for a MATERIALS HANDLER (SSC) (Title 32), Position Description Number D1909000 and is part of the IL USPFO, National Guard.
Plan and lay out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the individual and lower graded worker(s).
Plan, organize and direct shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision.
Provide recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions, leave, etc.
Possess the knowledge and skills required for planning, accomplishing and maintaining a functional shop maintenance program.
Devise and maintain all program plans and records.
Skilled in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques.
Able to determine maintenance/repair procedures needed without benefit of technical supervisory guidance.
Independently determine appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished.
Estimate manpower, equipment and material requirements.
Determine approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner.

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

Qualifications
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence,
The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens.
Military Grades: Enlisted Only - May not exceed the rank of E-7
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training which demonstrates the ability to compare item identification against receiving reports and issue request forms; skill in using hand trucks, dollies, and other equipment to move stock; ability to use hammers, pliers, and other hand tools; and to follow oral and written instructions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-07 Level - Must possess at least 12 months experience performing inventory and inspections to determine serviceability of stocked items. Experience in interpreting and applying written instructions, reference materials, publications, and manuals. Experience in setting up and rotating storage locations considering factors such as life expectancy, available space, product turnover, etc.
