As a General Attorney, GS-0905-15, your typical work assignments may include the following:

The attorney in this position will counsel OMB leadership, managers, and staff at all levels across the Agency regarding a broad range of matters involving the Administrative Procedure Act and the Federal regulatory process, primarily serving as an attorney supporting OIRA. The portfolio includes assisting in the development and review of regulations, executive orders, legislation, and policy proposals.
In addition to regulatory work, the attorney would also have opportunities to support other important OGC work across the full spectrum of OMB's legal portfolios.

The successful candidate must be energetic, creative, and enjoy complicated legal questions as well as be able to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals with little oversight.

  • Must be a graduate from a full course study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association and be a member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory of the U.S., the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
  • Must have at least 3 years of legal experience as an attorney in good standing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must meet the qualification requirements outlined below to be considered minimally qualified for this position. The qualification requirements are in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standards. ALL QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE MET BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the next lower grade or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree and be a graduate from a full course study in a School of Law accredited by the American Bar Association and be a member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

In addition to meeting the basic qualification requirements described above, applicants must also have the following additional years of professional legal experience for the grade level indicated:

*GS-15 = 4 or more years (48 months or greater) of legal experience after graduation from law school

Specialized experience is experience directly related to the work of the position to be filled, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience requirements for this position is listed below:

General Attorney - In addition to meeting the requirements above, litigation experience a strong plus.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service program (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
