The Urology section is seeking a board eligible or board-certified Urologist to join the practice at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System. We are looking for individuals with broad experience in all aspects of clinical urology.

Help

The Urologist will provide direct patient care to our unique Veteran population. Duties and responsibilities include, but is not limited to:

  • Tallahassee Outpatient Clinic
    • Need to be willing to supervise nursing staff, ARNP's and Physician assistants on site
    • Procedures typically includes Cystoscopy, Prostate biopsy, Vasectomy and Urodynamics
    • Seeing a variety of disease processes, including workup and management.
    • Are nonoperative, but this could be accommodated with Operating room time if desired at the Lake City VAMC. In addition, the Tallahassee OPC has a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center on site with great potential once fully staffed.
    • Call - No call required
  • Jacksonville Outpatient Clinic

    • Applicants need to be willing to supervise nursing staff, ARNP's and Physician assistants on site.
  • Gainesville Veterans Hospital
  • Expected to serve as a mentor and teacher for urology residents in an accredited urology program as we always have a PGY 2 and PGY 5 resident on service. The opportunity exists but is not expected to participate in lectures, research and other hands on teaching activities with the urology residents.
  • Supervision - We have 7 midlevel providers (ARNP's and PA's) therefore supervision of their duties is required.
  • Call Typically split among the VA and University faculty. Call is taken in 1 week increments and usually amounts to 1 call period every 8-10 weeks.
  • Research - Ample opportunity exists but is not expected.
  • An operative heavy service. We have OR's in Gainesville as well as an outpatient surgery center in Lake City. We have an expanding robotics program with new Davinci Xi dual console robot. We have ability to handle all levels of operative complexity.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience: Needs American Board of Urology eligibility or certification.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: Physical requirements for this position include moderate lifting (14-44 lbs.); light lifting (under 15 lbs.); straight pulling (.5 hour); reaching above shoulders; use of fingers, both hands required; walking (1 hour intermittently); standing (2 hours intermittently); ability to distinguish colors and shades of color; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable to 13" to 16"; hearing (aid permitted). Candidate selection will be required to complete a pre-employment physical.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
