Duties

Help
  • You will evaluate radiation survey data to determine radiation hazards and compliance with established radiation level requirements.
  • You will assist in conducting inspections and surveillances of program operations.
  • You will conduct personnel dosimetry investigations to determine personnel exposures, evaluate results, and recommend improvements.
  • You will perform statistical and trend analyses of data relating to radiation health programs.
  • You will prepare reports of findings and evaluations to develop procedures and modification of existing requirements.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

FOR GS-07 Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a Professional Health Physicist collecting hazardous samples and conducting radiological surveys to assist with the execution of radiological monitoring and surveying for an industrial radiological health program..

FOR GS-05: Applicants who meet the Basic Education Requirements for this position are fully qualified for the GS-05 grade level.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

A bachelor's degree or higher in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus;
OR
A combination of education and experience with courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described above.

Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:
