  • You will provide historical representation at historical meetings and conferences.

Qualifications

You will be a Historian with the Naval History & Heritage Command.

This position will be filled using the Direct Hire Authority for Recent Graduates.

In addition to the Basic Requirements described below for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1. Utilizing a specialized knowledge in modern organizational and operational naval or military history, 2. Conducting scholarly research in naval or military archives, 3. Presenting papers at scholarly historical conferences and presenting historical material to general audiences, 4. Publishing peer-reviewed articles in books or scholarly journals; or meet the educational substitution listed below.

You may qualify for the GS-11 level if you possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or you have completed 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. provided this education provided the knowledge, skills and abilities to do the work of this position.

Basic Requirement:

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Applicants must possess a degree in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.

or

Applicants must possess a combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Recent Graduates Recent Graduates must be appointed within two years of being awarded a bachelor's or graduate degree from a qualifying educational institution as defined in 20 U.S.C. § 1001.The two year period of eligibility will be extended to four years for veterans who have completed a period of obligated uniformed service of more than 4 years, and was awarded a degree by an institution of higher education not more than 4 years before the date of appointment.
