  • The position is delegated responsibility for assigned staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis. Non-routine duties require that the position reorganize work schedules efficiently to ensure work is accomplished in a timely manner.
  • The position is responsible for assuring the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established policies and schedules set by higher levels of supervision.
  • The position trains staff and ensures that they are using the patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, patients' family members and personnel. Provides on-the-job training for subordinates as individual needs dictate. The position schedules regular meetings with staff to make them aware of new procedures or directives.
  • The position keeps the supervisor informed as to the condition of staff, unusual occurrences or matters that should be brought to the attention of their supervisor.
  • Keeps subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies; control the use of supplies and equipment to affect cost control within the unit.
  • The position approves leave requests for subordinates, counsels' employees, and recommends disciplinary action to a higher-level supervisor whenever non-compliance with policy warrants.
  • The position performs within established guidelines, operating procedures and department and medical center policy. The position keeps immediate supervisor apprised of actual or potential problems and recommends remedial corrective actions.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.


Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. The job can be physical especially when relocating office furniture and supplies. Subject to a great deal of walking, standing, bending, stooping and climbing stairs. Visual acuity must be sufficient to see and recognize evidence of unsanitary conditions. Works in a well-lit, climate-controlled building but may be exposed to the outside elements periodically. May encounter unpleasant odors or unsightly conditions when dealing with waste and regulated medical waste. Universal precautions must be maintained.
