Duties

Help

As an Investigator with the DOE Office of Inspector General, the incumbent receives, reviews, researches and investigates allegations of waste, fraud, abuse, mismanagement and whistleblower reprisal affecting Department programs. The incumbent receives and analyzes complaints received by the Hotline, determining whether the complaint falls within the scope of fraud, waste and abuse violations.

The incumbent conducts administrative investigations into alleged violations of Title 41 USC 4712; plans and arranges all aspects of inquiries and investigations; briefs the DOE Inspector General on investigative findings and provides investigative data in support of management decisions; prepares and reviews written administrative investigation reports and related correspondence; evaluates Whistleblower Reprisal, Reports of Investigation, and Investigative Reports; receives and analyzes complaints received by the Hotline.

Appointment to this position may be subject to successful completion of a 1-year probationary period. This position requires a security clearance and is subject to drug testing.  The selectee must test negative prior to being appointed to this position and will be subject to random testing thereafter. Failure to pass subsequent tests could result in disciplinary action, up to and including removal from the Federal service.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT - A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled.

Applicants must possess the specialized experience that has equipped you with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled. To qualify for the GS-13 grade level, you must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level.  Examples of specialized experience include: collecting and analyzing evidence to determine violation of rule, law or regulation; and experience developing written reports that provides investigative analyses, conclusions, and recommendations.

1.  Knowledge of Whistleblower statutes, Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act regulations.

2.  Skill in compiling and analyzing evidence gathered.

3.  Skill in researching Federal laws, regulations, policies and principles governing Federal investigative programs.

4.  Ability to effectively communicate orally.

5.  Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
