As the Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), we remain an independent and objective organization, conducting and supervising audits, evaluations, and investigations relating to the Department's programs and operations. The following are the duties of this position at the GS-14. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
- Conduct reviews, assessments and evaluations of HUD IT systems and IT security programs to assess compliance with applicable laws, federal regulations, standards, best practices, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) guidance and other HUD policies.
- Assess IT management, operational and technical controls requiring the use of a variety of information security skills acquired through both education and experience.
- Research, conduct reviews and analysis of technical and evaluation data to formulate conclusions, and prepare a wide variety of written draft and final reports, management advisories and technical and analytical information papers.
- Apply technical skills and conduct security risk and vulnerability assessments and assess the adequacy of protection safeguards, contingency planning, continuous monitoring and incident response procedures.
- Conduct research and analyze a wide variety of complex IT Infrastructure and information security issues and provide recommendations for mitigating risks and improving IT efficiencies.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience:
For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience or General experience for this position includes:  
-Conducting vulnerability scans or analyzing network traffic; AND
-Assessing IT access controls, configurations, or policies for IT risks; AND
-Solving IT problems related to networks, configurations, and code.
AND
In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must have proficiency in each of the four competencies listed below.
- Attention to Detail, such as maintaining awareness of cyber security threats.
- Customer Service, such as providing troubleshooting support.
- Oral Communication, such as participating on IT project teams.
- Problem Solving, such as performing assignments without clearly defined precedents.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree. Attach a copy of transcript or list of college courses designating semester or quarter hours earned to ensure proper credit.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Public Trust – Background Investigation will be required.
