Duties

Help
  • Analyzes public land issues in consultation with management and other teams and develops and implements communications strategies and materials for a variety of resource management programs.
  • Creates, writes and distributes a wide variety of materials to communicate information about BLM issues, programs and activities to center's of influence.
  • Conducts communications research and planning principles to develop portions of strategic and crisis communications plans. Integrates national messages into communication plans and tracks metrics to measure effectiveness.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all Departmental and Bureau policy and program direction related to public land management and implements communications policy within the field office.
  • Develops and maintains professional, proactive, credible relationships with media outlets. Coordinates media coverage of BLM issues, programs and activities.

Qualifications

You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following: Analyzed public land issues and, in consultation with management and other teams, develops and implements communications strategies and materials for a variety of resource management programs; Created, wrote and distributed a wide variety of materials to communicate information about BLM issues, programs and activities to key publics; Employed established communications research and planning principles to develop portions of strategic and crisis communications plans; Maintained current knowledge of all Departmental and Bureau policy and program direction related to public land management and implements communications policy within the office; Developed and maintained professional, proactive, credible relationships with media outlets, including traditional and new media outlets.

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: The work is generally sedentary and does not require unusual physical effort.

Work Environment: Most of the work is performed in an office setting although travel to field sites or other BLM/government offices is often required.
