Help

Duties include, but not limited to:

  1. The incumbent manages the daily operation of the program, develop policies and procedures for program operation and prepare reports and statistics for facility, VISN, and national use.
  2. Serves as subject matter expert for ACP, understanding documentation for state and VA process. Serves as facility champion for advancing conversations on advanced care planning. Briefs Service, Facility, and VISN leadership as needed regarding implementation and sustainment of ACP-GV.
  3. Provides outreach and educational presentations to facility Leadership, Services, Programs.
  4. Develops and implements information systems to track service activities that may include but are not limited to visits, referrals, inpatient days, patient demographics, equipment utilization and patient satisfaction.
  5. Leads key project activities related to the planning, development, and implementation of the project component. A substantial portion of the workload directed by this position is carried out at one or more locations that are physically removed from the main unit under conditions that make day-to-day supervision difficult to administer.
  6. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Tour of duty is based on organizational needs)

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

  • Citizenship. Citizen of the United States.
  • Licensure. Supervisory social workers must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure
  • Education. Master's degree in social work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for master's degree in social work.

Grade Determinations:
  • GS-12 Experience/Education: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
  • In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
    1. Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines.
    2. Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement.
    3. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services.
    4. Ability to provide staff training and development
    5. Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers.
  • Assignments.
    For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and variety and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. At the GS-12 grade level, supervisory social workers typically have significant personnel management responsibilities for a small to moderate sized professional and non-professional staff, including support staff and professional staff at the GS-12 grade level and below. The supervisory social worker is responsible for the professional and administrative management of an area in a social work service, in a care/product line, or multiple facilities. They provide

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary with prolonged periods of sitting. The work requires moderate lifting, carrying, pushing, standing; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; ability to read without strain; ability to hear the whispered voice with or without hearing aid; emotional & mental stability.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
