Summary

This position is located in the Shasta Trinity National Forest.

This position is located at a Forest Service unit in Mountain Gate, CA. Incumbent performs work in support of the unit's recreation program. Responsible for implementing both annual and long-term work plans for developed recreation sites, both developed and dispersed.

Duties

Help
  • Recommend strategies on potential recreation problems arising from changing use patterns and new activities.
  • Participate in the development of plans for recreation area maintenance, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and construction projects.
  • Assist in the implementation of recreation operation and maintenance plans for developed and dispersed recreation sites.
  • Participate with other resource personnel to develop long-range plans for managing recreation resources.
  • Recommend improvements for developed and dispersed recreation sites on the Unit.
  • While patrolling roads, trails, and/or waterways, ensure recreation use in accordance with recreation plans and regulations.
  • Recommend possible public involvement on recreation programs and activities.
  • Assist with the enforcement of Off-Road-Vehicle (ORV) restrictions to include maintenance and enforcement of restrictions.
  • Patrol management unit to collect use data, identify or correct unsafe conditions, and prevent vandalism.
  • Monitor the logistics required for completion of wilderness projects and non-wilderness projects associated with trail maintenance reconstruction.
  • Maintain records of visitor use level and type of pattern use for recreation site.
  • Protect the scene of any incidents before relinquishing control to law enforcement officials.
  • Coordinate group visits with operational personnel, determining schedules and logistical requirements.
  • Maintain recreation facilities such as toilets, road closure gates, hand pumps, water systems, picnic tables, fire rings, barriers, dumpsters, and other miscellaneous structures.
  • Determine regulatory signing needs which includes arranging for installation and monitoring signs for effectiveness.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-07 level: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience are: Served as the point of contact with community organizations and interest groups to generate utilization of forest recreation facilities; Assisted in the development of plans for recreation area maintenance, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and construction projects in accordance with program management objectives and policies; Served as an inspector and/or contracting officer's representative on service contracts insuring work is completed properly; Participated in all aspects of Special Use Permit administration for activities within undeveloped and developed areas of the unit.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Additional information

Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP) or Reemployment Priority List (RPL): To exercise selection priority for this vacancy, CTAP/RPL candidates must meet the basic eligibility requirements and all selective factors. CTAP candidates must be rated and determined to be well qualified (or above) based on an evaluation of the competencies listed in the How You Will Be Evaluated section. When assessed through a score-based category rating method, CTAP applicants must receive a rating of at least 85 out of a possible 100.

This announcement may be used to fill positions with a seasonal work schedule where full-time work is guaranteed for 18 pay periods and when not working, you will be placed in non-pay/non-duty status.
