Duties

Help
  • Work security functions such as: Industrial Security, Information Security, Personnel Security, Foreign Disclosure, Communications Security, Security Education Training and Awareness, and Sensitive Compartmented Information.
  • Provides advice and guidance to all levels within the organization concerning all aspects of security programs, including SCI/collateral security programs and the interface with other related operational or security functions.
  • Provides personal advice and offers assistance with working through security personnel issues in subordinate and supported organizations.
  • Ensures development of physical security plans for safeguarding classified information. Determines physical security requirements for secure areas, vaults, and/or sensitive compartmented information facilities.
  • Analyzes supplements regulations and directives from higher headquarters; writes policy, procedures and general information materials used in regulating, implementing and managing security programs.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (SSBI) security clearance, with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • Temporary duty (TDY) travel may be required 25% or less of the time.
  • Subsequent Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) certifications are required with the requirement to complete one per year each consecutive year thereafter in the order mandated by the SPeD certification sequence.

Army DCIPS positions apply Veteran's Preference to preference eligible candidates as defined by Section 2108 of Title 5 U.S.C., in accordance with the procedures provided in DoD Instruction 1400.25, Volume 2005, DCIPS Employment and Placement.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.

Specialized experience is defined as experience in working with security programs in three (3) or more of the following: physical security, personnel security, information security, industrial security, Foreign Disclosure and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS-12).

Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector or in another government agency as long as it was at a level at least equivalent to the next lower band in the series.

Specialized experience is progressively responsible intelligence-related security work directly related to the position being filled. Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector or in another government agency as long as it was at a level at least equivalent to the next lower band in the series.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • This position has been identified for the Security Professional Education Development
    (SPeD) Certification Program. The SPeD certification is DoD's initiative to professionalize the security workforce by establishing a common set of competencies for security practitioners that promotes interoperability, facilitates professional development and training, and develops a workforce of certified security professionals. This position requires the incumbent to obtain the SFPC certification within their first two years of employment. Subsequent SPeD certifications are required with the requirement to complete one per year each consecutive year thereafter in the order mandated by the SPeD certification sequence and/or as mandated by the position supervisor and/or organization leadership.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
