As a Hydrologist and Surface Water Specialist within the Washington Water Science Center (WA WSC), some of your specific duties will include:
Serving as a quality assurance specialist with expertise in Hydrologic Data and Data Management.
Evaluating and ensuring the quality of WA WSC data and data products and developing the workflow and review processes needed to ensure that those data and products are of highest scientific quality.
Applying and developing quality assurance reviews and project workflow processes needed to ensure that WA WSC data and data products are of highest scientific quality.
Conduct seminars and training sessions on methods, techniques, and study results for data management and data products.
Serving as Project Chief for WA WSC programs and projects, including day-to- day management of large, complex projects that are large basin, statewide, or regional in scope and sensitive or controversial in nature.
Operates a government owned or leased vehicle as an incidental driver.
Physical Demands: Field work regularly requires frequent physical exertion to inspect ongoing operations, including walking over rough, rocky, or uneven terrain; lifting and carrying equipment and supplies; and wading streams in all types of weather.
Work Environment: The work regularly involves moderate risks or discomforts associated with visiting field sites with limited access, under adverse weather or flooding conditions, or exposure to irritant or toxic chemicals using the appropriate safety procedures and equipment. Work may require the use of special clothing or gear such as masks, coats, boots, goggles, respirators, life jackets, or other safety gear.

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position?
Taking and passing a pre-employment medical examination at Federal expense is required due to the physical demands of this job.
You will be required to operate a government-owned or -leased vehicle in the performance of your official duties. If selected, you may be required to provide proof of a valid State license and a copy of your driving record.
Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. Qualifications
BASICEDUCATIONREQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Hydrologist, all grade levels.
A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical or natural science, or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours or the equivalent in any combination of courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics, chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology, oceanography, or the management or conservation of water resources. The course work must have included at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in physics.
B. A combination of education and experience-course work as shown in "A" above (30 semester hours or the equivalent in any combination of courses as specified in "A" above which must include at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in physics), plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above. In addition to meeting Basic Education, applicants must meet the following:
Possess one year of appropriate professional experience in hydrology that is equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service.
Examples of such experience include planning, executing and reporting on original hydrologic studies or ongoing hydrologic studies requiring a fresh approach to resolve new problems. The complexity of this work typically required extensive modification and adaptation of standard procedures, methods, and techniques, and the development of totally new methods and techniques to address novel or obscure problems for which guidelines or precedents were not substantially applicable. At this level, Hydrologists have extensive knowledge of the principles of hydrology and highly developed ability in their application, and wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment to perform scientific work of marked difficulty and responsibility.
