Duties

Help

As a Health Scientist (Extramural Research) you will:

  • Lead a team with expertise in establishing and administering the infrastructure for various disciplines of extramural research.
  • Serve as liaison by representing the agency with both private and public research institutions by monitoring the alignment of extramural research, policies and guidance.
  • Provide expert scientific advice and consultation on scientific peer review.
  • Provide oversight and conduct studies to evaluate extramural proposals in response to Funding Opportunity Announcements.
  • Manage all extramural research awards and serve as central administrator of cross-cutting efforts to facilitate the research.
  • Supervise a small contingent of positions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications for GS-601-15:

Applicant must have a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the US Department of Education (https://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/) at the time the degree was obtained.

Minimum Qualifications for GS-601-15:

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in leading, developing, evaluating and providing technical and scientific research experience relating to grants and cooperative agreements for public health programs, policies, and activities.

Education

Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
