Duties

Help
  • You will be responsible for monitoring and managing wildlife populations and their habitat, administering programs for wildlife management and wise land use consistent with state and federal guidelines.
  • You will plan and conduct inventory and annual monitoring of various game and non-game species.
  • You will be responsible for managing all LWRS data located in Camp Lejeune's geographic information system (GIS).
  • You will receive and review complex and controversial projects on the installation that affect natural resources.
  • You will develop and maintain productive/cooperative relationships with federal, state, county, association and private industry officials.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to receive pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis series, rabies antibody titer check every two years, and boosters as appropriate based on titer results.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Applicants must possess a bachelors degree in biological science that include:

-At least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; and
-At least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (Excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); and
-At least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences.

OR

Combination of education and experience: equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, applicants must demonstrate the following:

GS-09: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Assisting with the planning, coordination, and evaluation of wildlife programs and wildlife management.

GS-11: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Responsible for gathering, analyzing and managing natural resources data regarding game and non-game fish and wildlife management.

Education

In addition to meeting the above basic entry qualification requirements, you may also meet the minimum qualifications based on one of the following:


GS-09:
Successfully completed 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree
OR
Successfully completed master's or equivalent graduate degree
OR
Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.


GS-11:
Successfully completed 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree
OR
Successfully completed Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
